Here is a hand I played last night.

Comments on the bidding and lead?

I could have Passed, obviously, or bid 2 to show 5+ and a minor.

If you play this convention, do you have an agreement for what partner's bids over 3NT should mean?

I came in just after you played this and commented to Haspel how +3400 turned into -1000 :P

I would have bid 2 with yours. You do have a 5-5 even though one of your suits sucks. I don't want to slow partner down if he has a good hand with fitting 3 card heart support.

3N = normal even though you can sense a possible problem in diamonds.

Double = ?. I might have bid 4, although the hand does look defensive with partner likely holding clubs instead of diamonds. So I don't know.

No idea what this redouble is all about.

As far as the lead goes, at the time I thought the A makes sense. It might help us to establish the suit if its right, or find a sensible shift. It doesn't give up a possible 9th trick like a low diamond would - assuming we have another trick source. Since you have no entries, I have a little sympathy for it.

Better to be plus +1000 instead of -1000 :)

It makes sense that the double asks you to lead your major. After all, without the double you would usually lead your minor. Also, south is not likely to have a 4-card. I think the double is pretty random though.

The redouble was just as random, maybe south knew his opponents.

Assuming a (far from obvious) heart lead, is there anyone willing to play the diamond jack after taking the AKT of hearts?

A helpful partner would block the heart suit by pitching the 8 + 6 which would force a diamond shift I think.

I suppose letting the 5 win would work as well.

Man, this is a game of inches.

Unlucky... a general comment about posting hands. The way you posted your hand, it will "go away" when myhands is flushed. IF you hand clicked the link from myhands page (instead of copying the link) and then copying the link from the address line of the new window will make the hands you post here permanant.

Use your mouse to see the type of info in the two links below (you can read the link info in the bar at the bottom of IE)...

The bidding is fine imo, a poor 5 card suit is only worth a 4 card imo. So I'd also Dbl.

Then the Dbl of 3NT, you need to agree what it means. Is it takeout, lead your minor, lead your Major, lead , doesn't matter what you lead,...?

Hm but I mean how do I know what major my partner has? If I have like AKx AKx in the majors, how are opponents in 3NT? I don't get it, if I have one good major then of course my partner has the other major.
