pirate22
Slam's in a MINOR--Partner opens 1n/t-ok if one has a 5/5 in the minors as responder and a modicom of points-one has a widget-its a problem when one has a single minor even with a 5/6 carder....... That is why the WBF should alter score values for a bid 5 minor to be higher in value than a mundane 3n/t -tick,I think this would sharpen up the game.apart from that suggestion.....any suggestions for a single 5/6/carder,oriented to a slam,or subside back to 3 n/t

jjbrr
modicom of points suggests 3NT. not sure what the rest is asking.
Bbradley62
any suggestions for a single 5/6/carder,oriented to a slam,or subside back to 3 n/t I think he's asking what conventions/gadgets/bids you like to use to explore 6m when partner opens 1NT. hanp
With even the rules discriminating against minors, no wonder that so few young people pick up the game.
jamegumb
With even the rules discriminating against minors, no wonder that so few young people pick up the game. Yep. And they tried to send in beer to those 33 guys trapped in Chile. But then the government stopped it, as it's illegal to distribute alcohol to miners. W Kovacs
With even the rules discriminating against minors, no wonder that so few young people pick up the game. Yep. And they tried to send in beer to those 33 guys trapped in Chile. But then the government stopped it, as it's illegal to distribute alcohol to miners. That hurt. A lot. :P As for the OP question, if there was one in there: 4 suit transfers are the answer he is looking for. Transfer, then you can pass/bid 3NT/splinter/blackwood/cuebid/etc as appropriate. And the scoring for minors has been in place for, what 100 years? I seriously doubt the WBF is going to change it to make minor suit games more attractive than 3NT. manudude03
The scoring for games has always been based (as far as I'm aware) on being 100 "below the line" with 20 for minors, 30 for majors and 40 for the first in NT and 30 thereafter. Increasing the scoring for minors would mean making 4C/D as games. If you're asking about how to investigate minor slams, its hard with randoms in MBC, usually just bid 3N and hope it makes. In a serious partnership, you can play 4-way transfers, 3C/3D showing both minors invite/GF, stayman+minor= GF etc.
hanp
On a more serious note, the scoring rules are absolutely brilliant. The fact that 5m scores so badly at MPs has a huge effect on bidding, it would dramatically change the game if 5m was worth more.
aguahombre
I suspect it is a toss-up whether 4-suit xfers used properly, and with other gadgets to fill in different holes ---or plain old 2 suit xfers, Walsh relays, and other gadgets to fill in different holes ---- is better. The key is agreeing how they should be used + what the responses and follow-ups are, and then using them with the right hands. I further suspect that anyone who is dogmatic that one style is mandatory, and the other is awful, is simply unaware of how the other can be used succesfully.
