can't play card, scroll chat

Hi all,

I'm still having the problem at my teaching tables where people (even web client) cannot play a card and it affects multiple people. They have to leave and come back. I'm on Windows 7 64-bit with the latest flash client update, latest Firefox.

 

Also, I still get stuck sometimes where the chat window scrolls to the top every time a new chat comes in. I scroll it down to see the new chat, and it then goes back up the next new chat. It's like it's reloading the entire contents of that window and resetting the current placeholder to the top.

Hi Dan. When this happens

 

1) are you (the host) using the web client ?

 

2) when u say cannot-play-a-card, you make it seem like this affects both windows and web users. Do you mean that an affected windows user clicks but nothing happens or that *he* thinks the card was played but you dont see it?

 

3) Would UNDOs typically have been involved? There are some weaknesses with UNDOs at teaching tables.

Hi Uday,

I'll investigate further. I know we do have undos in general and they had happened prior to the can't_play issue.

 

I was the host, on the web client, from said machine.

 

When they can't play we have not seen it play. But they can chat (that's how they tell me).

The more details you can provide about the teaching table bug, the more likely that we can replicate this bug. Once we can replicate it fixing it rates to be trivial.

 

Some questions:

 

1. Do you use randomly dealt deals or do you prepare and upload deals?

2. How many seats were you sitting in?

3. We have heard about some problems at vugraph tables (which from a software point of view are similar to teaching tables) in which an UNDO took back the last bid of the auction (ie a Pass) after the opening lead had already been made. If you see this happen again, please note if this happened on the deal in question.

 

I will also take a closer look at the chat issue you describe. I was able to replicate something similar under Chrome that I could not replicate under IE. That typically means that the bug is not in the web-client (and in this case is most likely to be a bug in the most recent version of Flash Player). That rates to make it hard for me to fix the bug without causing other problems, but I will see what I can do.

- random hands, only table options are allowing kibs to join and chat, and requiring permission to sit

 

2. How many seats were you sitting in?

- I was in kibitz while 4 people played, some might come and go

 

3. - I haven't seen this for us, all our undos are in the auction before it is over - sometimes I will click some of the functions for them (accepting claims, undos) if I can to speed it up.

 

I won't get another chance to test until next Saturday - I have a free game every week at 10am NY for people to hang out and watch/play. I'll continue to use Firefox but I secretly want to try MSIE now.

Just joined a table seat reserved for me, private chatted to a friend, and now it's perma-resetting to the top of the chat window unless I clear chat.

I am pretty sure I am on top of the chat scroll problem, but not clear whether or not a fix will make it into the next release (because we have a new version that has been well-tested but does not contain this fix - if the latest changes are to be included in the next release we will need to do another round of testing first).

 

I have so far been unable to replicate the teaching table bug, but I did fix something that might be related. This also may or may not make it into the next release.

Can't play affected two players at same time. I'm on my same setup. No undos had happened. But people had left their seat, rejoined seat throughout the session. Lots of private chat, permissions to sit.

Hi all,

OK the scroll issue I narrowed down a little. Even if I close the browser and reopen from scratch, if I go to a table, and the chat window shows at the bottom, if it fills with chat and the scroll bar on the right appears, if I use that scrollbar to scroll all the way to the top (dragging, not clicking) and release it there. No matter what I do from that point on every new chat will move the scroll bar to the top.

 

Side note: sometimes when moving the screen windows it will say that the chat is now in the right side, but it doesn't actually go there - it always stays at the bottom.
