benlessard
(1Nt)--X--(XX)--??? Weak NT, XX is a 2 suiters sos. Should advancer bid with a weak hand so that pass show points and setup forcing pass ? What is expert standard here ?
helene_t
It can't be right to bid with any weak hand, or any strong hand. With a 4333 I would pass regardless of strength. We might be better off defending, and otherwise maybe partner needs the room to show has hand. It is probably right that direct action should be weaker than delayed action, though. Gerben42
Be glad that XX is forcing and they are not about to catch you. A direct action must show game interest in a suit.

gnasher
If you usually play that 1NT dbl 2x pass is forcingand 1NT dbl 2x bid is weakthen it's consistent and logical to do the same here. If you don't, then it's not.
Crunch3nt
I strongly think you should play that pass shows values. Thinking you are off the hook with a weak hand is an illusion as if they run and then partner doubles for take-out and you have solved nothing and may now be at the three level! Pass clarifies whose hand it is immediately, can put you in penalty mode (if you want), or just enables easy subsequent bidding without guessing. Ant590
I play that all weak hands must bid, otherwise we set up a forcing pass beneath 2NT. So for me even, a 4333 bids here. It's just so much more comfortable that way, and stops issues with hesitations etc. It also means we're settled regardless of the meaning of the XX. For instance, it's common in the UK for XX to be a single-suited escape, relay to 2♣. Then with me (and also in genera with other bids), pass shows the balance of points, so we can have a nice FP auction. With a poor 4=3=3=3 I bid 2♣ confidently, and the opps almost always bid on, then I can pass happily with no FP.
dake50
Can I use XXX for strong (No wait that's porno prefix. Sorry)? So pass is weak.Use 2C weak: nothing up to not wanting penalty double of 2S. Freeing pass for establishes forcing passes. Must intend penalizing weak 1N often as a strategy. MFA
I don't see why we shouldn't apply normal bridge principles to this situation. So: Bid: I have 5+ cards with some values, NF of coursePass: I have nothing, or I am roughly balanced and waiting for the bidding to proceed. A later double is for take-out. Several styles are possible here for sure, but it seems particularly silly if we are obliged to bid something directly with nothing and a balanced hand.
