The hand conditions are kind of hazy. It is an uncontested auction. We are playing 2/1. Partner is a random and has already made a bidding error in the few hands we have played. His profile says Advanced which usually means he can play even if he can't bid. Partner opens 1♦. I bid 1♠. He rebids 2N. His rebid tells me that he has 18-19HCP with a balanced hand. I rebid 4♠. We have game and I want to be in it. He instigates Blackwood with 4N. I pass as we cannot have a slam.

 

Please evaluate my rebid and pass.

Either partner's 2NT bid is wrong, or his 4NT bid is wrong. Probably the latter but it might be the former, so you might as well answer, hoping to be able to play 5♠, as there might be problems with 4NT. It doesn't really matter though, as your next step should be to look for a new partner.

#2 Pass after 4NT is not an option, basically, it can only be right, if 4NT makes

and everythings else fails.

Passing 4NT is also insulting p, of course you may be right, that he has no

clue, what he is doing, but never ever insult p.

In general I agree, but with random pick up "Advanced" pards I get burned all the time.

For example - I held a balanced 9 HCP hand.

what does 3NT mean? since 2NT = 20-21, 2♣->2NT shows 22-24, 3NT shows 25-27.

So I bid 6NT. But I was 99% positive pard didn't know what he was doing, and sure enough he didnt have his bid, down a few.

 

In this case the 4NT is a train wreck. I see nothing wrong with trying to stop the wreck and passing.

What can pard have?

AQTx hearts, with the K onside? (good for a discard)

AQ of Daimonds iwth the king also onside? (our lucky day).

AK of Clubs.

If the pick up pard has already made a bidding error, and you doubt he knows what he's doing pass 4NT. Will it doom your partnership? Maybe, and maybe the pard is awful and its no loss.

4S is easy to evaluate. Perfect. Your hand is not strong enough for 3S, then 4S.

 

Pass is more difficult. I have sympathy, in the context you gave. It is just a matter of how quickly you want to get rid of the guy; I predict he will disconnect if you pass (and it was, in fact, RKC), and might anyway if he was bailing to NT with a singleton spade and you bid.

If pard has xxx, Ax, AKQxx, AJT then slam same some play. We can quibble about how that hand should be bid, but given the conditions of contest, this hand should not be outside the range of possibilities.

 

More importantly, the others are right: you cannot both pass 4N and stay at the table to play more with the same partner.
