What's the right call?

I usually double with these hands and then support spades, but I don't expect a majority to agree with this.

Using 2N to show this hand and 3 maintains the 'purity' of your negative doubles.

This is not a good hand, so why complicate matters? Bid 3, showing a limit raise, which is what I have, barely. Doubling then correcting diamonds to spades is way to subtle for me.

I don't like many adages but support with support is one of the few I do.

p 1S 2H ?

2S or 3H or something else?

I prefer if possible to use the negative double on a 3-trump raise and use the cuebid usually with a 4-trump raise.

Unless my partnership opens very light, this hand should force to game. Even at matchpoints.

I may be wrong, but I think the "expert" practice here (at least as I learned it and play it) is to have two ways to show support, the cuebid and 2NT. I have heard that the Meckwell uncertainty (meaning, they went back and forth) was whether 2NT showed a 3-piece limit+ and 3 a 4-piece limit+, which would be support-oriented, obviously, or whether 2NT showed 3+ limit and 3 3+ GF (strength oriented). I think they ended up with the latter (strength-oriented), which is where my reg partner and I ended up, as well.

With this hand, then, if desiring to show a limit raise, 2NT would be the call.

If you're going to do that I think it's better to distinguish trump length - other than them bidding 5 next I don't see how knowing whether it's a limit raise or a GF raise is really all that relevant immediately. And if you're going to do that it's clear to make 2NT show 4+ since you might need to rightside NT if you have a 5-3 fit and 3N is the right contract.

I feel so lonely with my 2 bid :(, at least I don't bid 2with the trash most people here will do.

I'll semi-join you. I think it's close betweem 2 and 3.

I would bid 3, but advice my partner to bid 2. (As declarer will be an overbidder and an underplayer.)

Edit: I bid 2 with the thrash most people do. And then some. But MP's is MP's.

U R not alone.

As the BC shows, we are not always on the same wave length. But this is heavy 2 call for me too. 3 needs one less heart or one more spade.

I don't mind doubling with a borderline limit raise over 1M (2C), when we can sometimes show our values at the 2-level, and sometimes find a better 4-4 fit in the other major. Here, I would really rather show my support. The gains of doubling are almost lost, and WE HAVE A SPADE FIT OVER THEIR LIKELY HEART FIT. That's probably the situation where it is most urgent to shout to partner right away that we have a fit - maybe he can bid 4S over 4H, or we can respect his double of their heart contract.

Of course at the table I can't use all-caps for my support, but fortunately partner will be able to understand 2S or 3H without any shouting.
