kvar
[hv=d=e&v=n&s=sa653hj764da52c42]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]P-P-1♦-XP-2♦-P-2♥P-? Do you agree with the 2♦ bid? Now what? If you don't pass with this hand, is there a hand you would pass with after cuebidding the previous round?
aguahombre
Cue and pass seems right.
gwnn
depends on agreement:) in N Europe the 2♦ bid doesn't promise much and this would not even be a minimum. they would bid 2♦ and then pass. in N America most people play that the 2♦ forces to game or suit agreement. Hence 2♥ is forcing and this hand bids 3♥. I am unsure about other parts of the world but I think the Netherlands and France are also in the N Europe camp as is maybe Italy, so maybe I should just delete the N in my second paragraph. As for me, I think both approaches are playable and I don't know which I prefer. I even played that a cue is GF and that also works OK even if it's clearly inferior. I prefer all three approaches to not knowing how forcing the cue is. B)
MickyB
Very nice post, Csaba, but you are a passed hand
aguahombre
in N America most people play that the 2♦ forces to game or suit agreement. Hence 2♥ is forcing and this hand bids 3♥. This is probably true of most people here. But, I am not sure if it is true of most strong pairs. Especially when advancer has passed originally. Not claiming to be "strong", but years of discussion with people who are seems to lean toward the "N Europe" style, and strong desire to find an eight-card fit for a better plus, when it is likely our hand. Tho O.P. hand is certainly near the top for cue and pass, but doubler knows the range, too. If he bids only 2H, we should keep our plus. jdonn
Gwnn nailed it, and it doesn't matter that the cuebidder is a passed hand as far as when the cuebid is forcing to game or suit agreement. The doubler is still unlimited and has to know if he can bid 2♥ on a strong hand or not.
MickyB
I would have thought it unusual for the cue to be forcing *to game* by a passed hand.
gwnn
Yes that part was not applicable to this sequence. sorry everyone for the confusion :)
