A spade could be right if declarer holds for example ♠xx ♥AQJ10xxx ♦Jxx ♣x. This rather specific though and I am sure I would have tried the simple ♣2 return.

I'd give a club ruff, but ask for a spade return. That's necessary if declarer has xx AKQxxxx Jx xx or x AKQxxxx Jxx xx.

Why are you certain partner's ruffing this, why hasn't he led your suit from 43 ?

 

There are a couple of unlikely possibilities where a trump lead is required.

 

void, AQJxxxxx, Qxxx, x for example.

 

Not sure what the best practical chance is.

My first reaction is SK, setting up a 3rd trick my way, and hope partner has a trump winner.

 

The club-ruff play requires partner to have ANOTHER trump winner (Kxx or Qxxx in hearts), otherwise declarer will be taking pitches.

If partner returns ♦ after ♣ ruff there will be a trump promotion on a further club play so Kx or Qxx is enough.
