bluecalm
Ratings is difficult and may cause many problems so it's not implemented. On the other hand often players look for decent opponents partners and are unable to find those. My idea to partially solve it is name verification. It would work like that: People send scans of ID's/utility bills (just like at poker sites) and then they would have "verified name" tag. Of course those people would be force to have full real name in their profile. Now my hope is that only semi serious players would bother to go through the process as well as people try to play better having their real name put out there. For one I know I would only play with such people and only choose tournaments for such people having a choice. As to financial aspect (veryfying costs money) let's say that one needs to send 5$-10$ to bbo for verification. It's more than enough to hire a person who would take care of verification. Thoughts ? TylerE
Why? What does this accomplish? Do I care if I'm sitting with "acehigh" or Joe Schmoe? Names mean nothing of people you don't know.

Thoughts ? i think they should send fingerprints instead, that way they they touch the computer screen during login and would not be admitted without a match. this would keep convicted criminals out of bbo, and we could turn bad bidders inot convicted criminals in return. the improvement in the level of play would be tremendous
barmar
I don't get it, either. Do you think bad players would be too embarassed to post their name? I've been playing online bridge since I was a novice, and I've always had my full name in my profile.

No.I think players who don't care wouldn't post their name.Playing only with players who at least try their best would be big improvement in quality of play and fun from the game. jdonn
I would be surprised if 1% of bbo members took advantage of this service. Maybe not 0.1%
pirate22
I agree...persons that hide behind "Private" have something to answer to/for.I agree extra validation is a step up to make BBO a real quality site
helene_t
I like Lu's suggestion but would like to have a full DNA profile also. Then I could avoid playing with people who have Down's syndrome or carry the gay gene or the God gene or ugly skin colors or similar. Also it would add to the value of BridgeBrowser to have genotypes of the players. That would allow statistical geneticists like me to identify the gene for abusing Blackwood, the gene for self-identifying as "expert", the gene for cheating, the gene for inquiring about female opponents' breast size etc.
