One teacher on BBO says it is a real 2 NT hand with 19-21 points, since a balancing NT is 11=14, , a double and then NT is a normal 1 nt with15-17, so 2 NT must be more than that-18-21. awm Posted August 3, 2010 Report Share Posted August 3, 2010 The standard meaning is that a balancing 2NT is natural and strong. The exact point range may be subject to some discussion, but the ranges you suggested are approximately right. This is certainly what I play in my partnerships. The balancing cuebid is perhaps subject to a bit more debate. The old-fashioned "standard" meaning is a very strong takeout, but I think many people play it as a two-suiter now. Does anyone play it that way? Every reasonable or better player I know plays it as big balanced.
