I have already done enough deciding from one side of the table with the 5 diamond bid. Might as well finish doing it all myself. to the credit: B. TylerE
And how many imps did an X here cost? 1? maybe even none?
ArtK78
As I recall the hand, there was a large swing, but not because the person holding the big hand doubled. It seems that somehow EW at the other table was allowed to play in 5♥ making. So, the double of 6♣ cost nothing, as the difference between -920 and -1090 meant nothing when added to the -650 at the other table. It is just an interesting hand. No lessons need to be drawn from it (except that bidding one more at IMPs on wild hands is often the right thing to do). Clearly, the main cause of the loss on the hand was that NS at the other table allowed EW to play in 5♥. No one holding these cards would do anything but double 6♣ (well, maybe someone would, but we won't go there).
cherdanno
And how many imps did an X here cost? 1? maybe even none? I bet compared to bidding 6♦ it cost quite a few IMPs.
pirate22
ARTK78 has raised an interesting point . when the bidding arrived at 2n/t,the opener should have some respect for his partners response of 1ht and x,bidding 5d is "Fatious"-----and i was not aware of the subsequent result not reported
