What's your bidding plan with this? Hidden: At the table I bid 4 diamonds, partner responded 4 spades. Are you worth one more try?
TimG
4♦ over 4♣. If partner retreats to 4♠, I think I'm worth another bid: 5♣.
cherdanno
I would give up over 4♠, if partner doesn't have a diamond fit for us this is likely a tricky hand to play, if suits break badly.
pooltuna
basically the preempt did its job and I can't tell if I am going way overboard so I stick to a conservative 4♠ call

jdonn
I bid 4♠? Why are people so eager to push past game? Any diamond finesse is likely off, diamonds and spades are less likely than normal to be breaking, we have a doubleton club. And what do we do when LHO bids 4♣ over 4♦ and partner doesn't even know about our spade fit? Or partner raises and we miss 4♠?
gszeszycki
Dealer: North Vul: N/S Scoring: IMP ♠ ATx ♥ xx ♦ AQ9xxx ♣ Ax 1♠-(4♣)-? I am hard pressed to imagine too many hands where the 5 level is not safe thus Iwill begin with 4N (this has the benefit of showing spade support right away) If p shows me TWO with Q I bid 6D asking them to bid 7 with dia K (if they bid 7dshowing at least kxx i will pass since 6d has far less risk of opening club ruff)(admittedly we probably will not make 7 if p has a total minimum due to expected bad breaks) but that is what preempts are for. If P shows me TWO w/o queen I will settle for 6S If P shows me any less I will settle for 5S p can still bid slam with some monstroushands knowing i was looking for slam like say KQJxxxx KQJxxxx void void. Another benefit of 4n right away is that I learn something useful about the hand if LHO bid 5c or 6c (assuming we are playing PODI (my favorite) or DOPI). jdonn
Hard pressed to find a hand where the 5 level isn't safe? xxxxx AKQJ KJ KQ in spades? Or do I need to find a hand with less than 19? How about a little less weird Kxxxx KQJxx Kx x? It's very easy to find hands where the 5 level isn't safe!
aguahombre
Would probably have bummed 4S over 4C. The problem with bidding again after the hidden is: maybe partner was thinking I did what I did because I had what I had.
