Confusing

While kibbing the Spingold Round of 8 today I witnessed the following hand:

[hv=d=w&v=n&s=sq10862ha963dk9ckq]133|100|Scoring: IMP

(1)-P-(1NT)-?[/hv]

World-Class South doubled then bid 2 over his partner's 2 response.

What do you make of that?

There was basically no commentary on the bid and no alert by the VG operator that would indicate there was a special agreement by N/S.

Yeah, I think this is just ELC, especially since the 1NT bidder tends to have length in the minors. That having been said, I don't understand spades then. Might be nice to have a bid here that asks you to pick your longer major (though I would think that would be 2).

Did this world class player survive doing that with that hand?  How nice for him if he did, at unfavorable.

Does that mean you think he should pass?

No, I think he should do whatever world class players do.

We mere mortals will find partner with eight or nine minor suit cards, opener with 4-4-2-3 distribution and the opponents' HCP to be about 21-24.

world class players find much better conditions than that.
