The opponents are playing 2/1. West North East South- P P 2NTP 3NT all pass Bless his heart, partner finds the killing opening lead of the ♠5 (sarcasm/off ). Declarer wins the first trick with ♠J and plays the ♣Q; partner playing the ♣6 and dummy plays the ♣8. Do you win this trick and how do you continue? Okay, okay I didn't really think you were that stupid :) Declarer continues with the ♣ J and after partner discards a small ♦ dummy plays the ♣9. How do you defend? EDIT: Carding is standard

vuroth
Declarer gets 3 ♣ tricks either way, so I don't see a reason not to take. I can't envision us getting 5 tricks without a diamond trick, so I'll return the Q♦.

dicklont
♣K and ♣xNow declarer must take his third club or kiss it goodbye. When partner get's one trick, (♥K/Q or ♠K) I'll make the other 4.
ArcLight
I duck the 2nd club as well. Now if declarer leads clubs a 3rd time, the club suit is established for me to get a 2nd club trick. I dont know what to lead, either a heart or diamond, so I'm happy to let declarer stay on lead. His main problem is inability to take finesses. he gets only 1 from clubs. This was an effective defense at the table as well and IMO the correct defense although the path to 5 tricks is still unclear.
