Good thing N read 4 as a splinter so that he can ruff his heart losers!

... wait

(In all seriousness, if 4 tends to not show much in the minors then North knows to sign off since he likely has no way of getting rid of all 3 of his minor suit losers. Then again, something good could have happened, like some minor diamond honors or a 5th spade so I think there's at least a little bad luck involved)

Hm. I'd win the A very early, draw trumps, discard clubs on the hearts and ruff a club in dummy exiting qith a diamond... Do I get a ruff'n'sluff?

I guess opener shouldn't rush things, 6 could wait a little.

The wisdom of splintering with 2 HCP and tons of possible minor suit losers seems debatable in spite the void.

The 6 bid very optimistically assumed that partner had more help and that there'd be enough pitches on the .

Perhaps N should have rebid 2NT, as this hand is balanced, however, it is so prime that I don't mind 2.

Anyhow, if the partnership could respond 2 as a bust this accident would not have happened.

But as it is, I give the majority of the blame to S and his splinter with such weakness. However, I'd like to know the parntership agreements for 4 and if 4 shows a void and not much outside strength, then blame is transferred to N.

As it is, South gets my blame 65/35.

My auction playing 2 bust (which I prefer by lots over 2 waiting) would go.

2-2(bust)-2-4 (now I can splinter since I have allready shown PD that I am nearly broke)-4 ...all pass.

How can north not drive to slam, are you guys serious? I'm sure you'd get to slam if partner has the more likely 4045 though! Or...some high card!

AKQ of hearts are useful, they are 3 pitches. AK A A is not bad either!

This obv shows the danger of splintering, but of course it could work very well also. Best would be if south had shown no ace or king and then splintered.

I have a lot of sympathy for this and think the main cause is bad methods (2S with a balanced hand, having to start with 2C, having no direct bid to show a yarb). Even if they aren't bad methods (they are pretty much standard bridge), they are bad for this particular hand combination.

North has a huge hand, however I would have preferred to treat this as a balanced hand using some form of Kokish. After the given sequence, it is hard not to see North bidding slam with 10 controls. I dislike the splinter on a hand so weak.

I personally love the splinter so long as this is the kind of hand it promises. With a bunch of outside junk responder could just raise to 3 and wait. When opener has a big unlimited hand, a splinter showing basically that feature and nothing else suits me perfectly. I would bid 4 on xxxx, x, xxxx, xxxx with up to a random Q somewhere since I think that's a much more common hand then having 3 or 4 lesser honors outside.

That still leaves it to North's judgment and some luck here though, since say, Q10xx, -, xxxx, xxxxx, as JLOGIC said, is much better.
