what do you open? (2)

Close but I like pass (wow not like me!). It's just so light in high cards, I know my partner would expect a stronger hand vulnerable so if he doubles an overcall or if he bids 3NT I'm very uncomfortable. Having a 7th spade makes up for the missing playing strength in spades perhaps, but does nothing to help if these other possibilities occur.

First choice, pass.

Second choice, pass.

Third choice, drop a card on the floor and call it a misdeal.

At equal vul, I would be OK with 2S.

Most of my sem-regular PD's would open 2â™  here and expect me to do the same.

While second seat R/W is the worst place to preempt, opening 2â™  does force the opp's auction to begin at a high level.

What some of my PD's would also do is to open 2♦ here if ♦ and ♠ were interchanged and I simply would hate that since 2♦ doesn't preempt nearly as much as 2♠ does and since 2♦x making isn't game. should be less risky for the opps to X.

2♦ in this situation should be a good hand and suit and you should welcome a 3NT call from partner, whereas here, PD with a good hand will often move towards the 10 trick ♠ game anyhow.

Now if my majors were interchanged I'd flip a coin as to whether to open 2♥ or pass.

As it is I understand the rational for passing but for me 2â™ =10 Pass = 7 3â™ =0
