TylerE
1♠ for me. Turn the J of ♣ into either the K or the QJT and I'd X.
jjbrr
Don't I have 5 spades or am I miscounting?
hrothgar
I can't imagine not bidding Spades. You hand is only worth one call. You want that call to be in Spades: 1. Spades is your longest suit2. Spades is your strongest suit3. Spades is the master suit
gwnn
The closest hand I could think of that I'd double with, keeping the spades and the distribution constant, is AQTxxxAKxAJxx :)
hanp
Unanimous 1S?
mikeh
even thinking about double is a misbid. This is NOT a style issue....not if you claim to be playing anything remotely resembling normal bridge as it is played in NA, at least. jillybean
As I've been told many times, "bid your hand" 1♠
pooltuna
Unanimous 1S? I wouldn't use any special conventional meaning to 1♠ like unanimous but that is the call I would make like everybody else so far :P
jdonn
Double is not even my second choice. I admit it's my third choice though. But both second and third are very distant.

neilkaz
Pardon my LOL at the suggestion to double !! 1♠ getting my fine 5 card boss suit into the auction quickly and at the lowest possible level is more than 100% clear. Even if you make my ten of ♥ a ♦ spot so that I am 5044 I still overcall with this nice suit. .. neilkaz ..

billw55
OK that settles that. lol So is the suit quality a big factor here? For example, let's rearrange the honors and change the hand to: ♠JT752♥T♦KQ2♣AT52 Is this still 1♠ lol, because of the 5 card suit?
gwnn
still 1S lol ;) you can double with a biddable 5cM if you have 4531 or 4513 and you are short in their minor and not too strong.
Wackojack
What is partner most likely to have? 3 spades, 4 clubs or 5 diamonds? No brainer. If you double you have probably lost forever the chance of playing in a 5-3 spade fit. Always overcall 1S with that shape 11-17HCP and also 7-10 with about 6+ points in spades. If you are strong say 17HCP, you overcall 1S and then the bidding goes 1H-(1S)-2H-p; p-? now you can double for take out. Much better than 1H-(x)-2H-p; p-2S which suggests a powerful hand with just spades.
P_Marlowe
1S. First of all, X would promise opening strength for most, and 2nd, you have the spades,5 of them, show them. With kind regardsMarlowe

Now it becomes more interesting, although most peoble would still overcall 1S, simply because of the two flaws, too weak for a T/O, 5 spades, add HCP, make the suit weaker and you will find peoble, who would start to make a T/O at one point.
