Little Kid
[hv=d=n&v=e&s=s52ht62dxxxxxc873]133|100|Scoring: MP1♣-(3♦)-Pass-(Pass)X-(Pass) - ?[/hv]Would you pass this kind of hand? Does it depend on the spots in ♦s? What is the minimum kind of hand with which you are willing to sit out the double in these situations? the hog
3H. yes, I would pass if the D spots were QJTxx
whereagles
Given the vulnerabilty, I would say it is likely that pard has at most 1 diamond and thus should have something like 4405, 3406, 3415 or thereabouts, so I would bid 4♣. Right suit in all cases except 4414. I might pass with something like JTxxx.
gwnn
pass of course. the law argument would be that they have at most 8 trumps and we have usually 8 and rarely 9 trumps, but even without the law argument, to me it has always seemed depressing to try to pull doubles to contracts which won't normally make. I don't mind even if I apply this philosophy a little too often and lose 5% here and there from my MP expectancy on a given hand, I just don't want to live through my bridge career being afraid of defending a cold doubled contract and what not. Life is long and beautiful, if bad things happen, good things will follow.
kayin801
I would pass if the diamond spots were 65432 or better. 3♥ seems too much like trying to being a hero to me. I'm tempted to bid 4♣ before 3♥, honestly. At least there's a lot of people at other tables facing the same problem!

ggwhiz
Pass is easy at MP's as it will lead to a plus score more often than bidding. Granted, the minus score is a zero but you can get back to average with a +120 on the next hand.
