Ethel
The opening bidder: 3CLHO PassPartner (Responder) 3DRHO PassOpener Pass Is the 3D forcing and by which law if it is? Thank you If it is NOT Forcing - is it Alertable?
bluejak
You can agree to play it forcing or not as you please: the Laws do not tell you how to play bridge. Forcing is more normal, but you do not have to follow normal practice if you do not want to. Offhand I cannot remember ACBL alerting in this situation, but I think it sensible to alert it because people expect it to be forcing. peachy
If it is not forcing, it is alertable. This is what the ACBL Alert regulation says about it: Below game, non-forcing natural suit responses to preemptive openings require an Alert.http://www.acbl.org/play/alertprocedures.html
blackshoe
I might add that even if it is agreed to be forcing, passing it is not an infraction of law (though it will be hard on partnership trust).
