5nt ask is not number of kings.

It confirms all the keycards and asks specific suit that has king. you can bid 6 or 6. if the only king you have is above the trump suit, you don't bid that, you just 6 of trump suit.

by the way your response to 4nt is also wrong. gib plays Roman key card blackwood. correct response is 5.

At the top of the GIB forum section is an "Important Thread" that describes GIB's bidding system. A detailed explanation of GIB's bidding is in this document: http://www.bridgebase.com/doc/gib_system_notes.php , which includes a detailed explanation of Roman Keycard Blackwood.

Your 5 bid showed 1 or 4 Key Cards (where Key Cards are the four aces plus the king of trump). Partner presumed you had 4, given your jump bid.

I'm intrigued that NorthGIB appears to be investigating grand on this auction. What is the range for South's 3 bid? Four keycards would be 15HCP; one minor king would make 18HCP, leaving no room for K or Q. Is North really considering bidding 7 dependent on picking up the Swiss cheese spades?

It's true that it is hard to construct a hand consistent with the 3 bid where 7 is good.

GIB is hard-coded to bid 5NT any time it knows that its side holds all of the keycards. This is useful for allowing partner to jump to the grand if he has a source of tricks.

This may very well be off the topic but the other day my blessed GIB partner asked for keycards with two small in a suit bid by the opponents. I concede my bidding up to that point was probably atrocious but is there a way to get GIB to not bid RKC with two fast losers in an unbid suit/suit bid by the opponents?
