Bbradley62
Jilly: Is your 3♣ the same as "standard" 4♣ splinter, or somehow different? Thanks.
Furlan
Looks like a nice hand for 2♦ followed by a 4♣ jump, showing a splinter with a good ♦ suit.
aguahombre
I choose the AKQXX to show. Seems like a nice feature of the hand. 2/1 gives plenty of time if we don't jump around every time we can.
jdonn
Looks like a nice hand for 2♦ followed by a 4♣ jump, showing a splinter with a good ♦ suit. Agree, I usually have 3 trumps to bid that way but seems fine to treat xxxx that way.
JLOGIC
4C and 2D are both fine, I'd choose 2D.
hanp
I'd bid 4C, I think 2D won't help partner evaluate.

Cascade
Is 4♣ not Gerber? :) A splinter here could be problematic if your methods do not include last train or similar as over 4♣ the only step available is 4♦ and partner will often have no diamond control. With a moderate hand partner maybe reluctant to bid beyond 4♥.
Free
4♣. The ♦ suit is useful, but it's solid so no need for partner to evaluate his hand based on ♦. But the ♣ shortage and a sure 4th trump is way more useful to partner imo.
Bbradley62
Thanks for your replies. I prefer 2♦ but wouldn't complain if partner bid 4♣. Still trying to figure out "modern" style...

I'd specify that Jacoby 2NT denies the ability to splinter or to bid your own suit first.

Agree, I usually have 3 trumps to bid that way but seems fine to treat xxxx that way. With this approach, responder has it both ways (showing both relevant features of the hand). The comments about 2D not being useful are a bit strange. Responder is telling, not asking; 2D is not "help suit" on this sequence, it is a strong suit. However, change the pointed suits around and I would probably bid 4C immediately. Two reasons: auctions which start 1♥-1♠ suck; and Cascade's Last Train consideration would become moot. Siegmund
I voted 4C but wouldn't fault a partner who chose to bid it the other way.
