Is 4 not Gerber? :)

A splinter here could be problematic if your methods do not include last train or similar as over 4 the only step available is 4 and partner will often have no diamond control. With a moderate hand partner maybe reluctant to bid beyond 4.

Playing 2/1[/hv]

choices look to be Jacoby 2NT, 2, and 4 without an initial discussion and which is why you need one to differentiate all the possible support hands I prefer 4 to show this type of hand

hmmm... I'd specify that Jacoby 2NT denies the ability to splinter or to bid your own suit first.

Looks like a nice hand for 2 followed by a 4 jump, showing a splinter with a good suit.

Agree, I usually have 3 trumps to bid that way but seems fine to treat xxxx that way.

With this approach, responder has it both ways (showing both relevant features of the hand). The comments about 2D not being useful are a bit strange. Responder is telling, not asking; 2D is not "help suit" on this sequence, it is a strong suit.

However, change the pointed suits around and I would probably bid 4C immediately. Two reasons: auctions which start 1-1 suck; and Cascade's Last Train consideration would become moot.
