All white, my partner dealt and we arrived at 6x after this sequence:

1-Pa-1-1

2-3-4-Pa

Pa-4-X-Pa

6-Pa-Pa-X

All Pass

---

AQ9x

A98xx

Q7xx

Q876

KJ8x

KQ

KT8

A was led, how do you plan to make?

I'll get the ball rolling. My guess (hoping that JT drop in three...) ruff, x,
  • If K wins, then ruff, Q, ruff, K, ruff, A9 chucking s.
  • If opponents win A, and return a or a trump, then (in some order) ruff, AQ KQ, KJ discarding s, Q...

The A needs to live, so that really requires 3-3, plus somehow not losing a trick to the 10 in the last 4 tricks.

Therefore, rolling along, it must be better to simply pull trumps -- ruff trick one, unblock , pull trumps ending in dummy, discard all the spades if J10 fall in 3, and finesse the 10.

Yes ceeb's line seems to be better :) If you cash KQ and JT fail to appear, then it may be a tiny improvement to test before drawing a second round of trumps. If RHO ruffs A, you can over-ruff with slight residual chances.

I'm playing LHO to be 5-3-3-2 or 5-2-3-3. I want to protect against AJ of clubs (which is why I wouldn't hook the Club Jack at trick two).

I'm going to ruff trick one, KQ of diamonds, AQ of Hearts, A of Diamonds and a Club to the King. I assume this loses to LHO Ace of Clubs. He is either forced to lead away from AJ(x) of Clubs or King of Spades. If he happens to return the last trump, then I have to play him for AJ of Clubs, so I lead up to Queen.

If he returns the King of Spades (after winning the Club Ace), I ruff in dummy and play on Diamonds until RHO ruffs, which I over ruff and still have the Club Queen as an entry to get to the last potential diamond.

If he returns a Low Club (after winning the Club Ace), then I play low to the 10 ... this is the worst case scenario.

What an auction! :)

I guess opponents have something like: LHO Axxxx xxxx xx Ax - RHO Kxxx x xxxx Jxxx

Where you can squeeze RHO. Ruff 1st trick, finesse, etc.

BTW, if LHO really has Axxxx xxxx xx Ax then it seems to me that he has found the only lead that allows 6 to make.
