whereagles
It would be insane at imps. At MPs you can try for something if you like gambling and have an understanding pard. That something should be double (3M would be a 64, so dbl is the only way to show a 55. With 54 you pass ofc).
gnasher
I didn't bid over 3♣, when responder's most likely hand was a signoff in my singleton. Now that I know he has an invitation in my doubleton, wouldn't it be a bit inconsistent to bid?
JLOGIC
Eww no. How likely do you think it is that you will play undoubled? You have announced that your hand is not very good by passing 3C. They have announced they have enough to try for game. Your partner has announced a hand without a great fit by passing throughout. And you're vul at MP. This is just like offering yourself up on a platter, and I don't even see why you'd want to, your doubleton is diamonds and your suits are not very good. jdonn
It's insane. 5512 would just be very bad.
Stephen Tu
Partner has 4225 with ST DA CJ, 3♠ makes (easier to get to at other tables, strong NT so a Michaels auction promising 5-5). He thought with 5-5 rather than a 4-5 I should double back in. I thought he was nuts.
eyhung
I was in the same game and played in your seat, Stephen. Having played against your partner fairly frequently, I noticed your partner often bids Michaels with 4-5 in the majors. I think that would explain why he feels the way he does. At our table I showed both majors over a 1C opener and my partner bid 3S over 3D, and I had no reason to go further. EDIT: Never mind, I forgot that the OP was a Landy auction, so what I said doesn't really hold water.
hanp
Michaels is entirely different from Landy, which is very common with 5-4 (and sometimes with 4-4).
jdonn
Why is it the one who doesn't ever bid with 4 card support who always complains his partner didn't do enough?
hanp
Why is it the one who doesn't ever bid with 4 card support who always complains his partner didn't do enough? This might be standard policy in all countries, maybe Cascade can confirm this.
gnasher
I wouldn't blame either partner for this. It's not particularly obvious for the other hand to bid 3♠ with 10xxx xx Ax Jxxxx. If that's a 4-4 fit, it's quite likely to get doubled for 200.
