3-card support, 7-card side-suit

Recommended Posts

I would've bid 2 at first turn, then 3 over 2. I think it's important to show a major suit fit right away in case the opponents raise more aggressively, and 2 sounds like a stronger hand (in fact I think the given sequence of 2...3 should be forcing).

Q1) no but then I play 2 is forcing and you have left your meaning unspecified I would just call 3 at my first turn assuming 5 card majors

Q2) over 2 I call 3 if I haven't already shown the values for this otherwise I pass

Q3) over 3 I believe partner has become the captain

Your hand is not worth a lot in support of hearts because partner will not be able to do much with the club suit. If you want to show heart support, you should bid 2 over 1, then you can bid 3 next time if you get the chance as Adam suggested. Otherwise just bid your club suit and forget about hearts as Justin suggested.

But you have to choose one or the other. Definitely do not bid again. I would sit for partner's double though it could be -730.

2 and then 3 will give partner a better picture of your hand in two bids.

How often do you think you'll get to bid 2H and then 3C? Partner will still have no idea that there is this much disparity, it's not like he'll pass it with stiff K or something.

P 1 1 2

2 P P 3

P P 3 ?[/hv]

Do you agree with the bidding so far (and if not, how would you bid it)?  Do you bid again?  Does either answer differ with vul/scoring?

pass

I dont blame anyone for bidding a good 7 card suit before showing xxx support.

pard will expect more from us but ok...

Everytime it comes back to me at 2.

I am not sure how often that is.

Nevertheless it is surely a better description of this hand than 2 first which overstates the values and usually understates the club length. At least 2 followed by 3 if available shows long clubs and three hearts whereas the order shown shows only four clubs and three hearts maybe not even four clubs for some.

Curiously playing negative free bids we often bid our six card suit first in this sort of auction and hope to show the three card support later. This seems to work out in that style.
