Little Kid
[hv=d=s&v=b&s=sq852hk753dajt63c]133|100|Scoring: MP1♦-(Pass)-2♣-(Pass)2♦ - (X) - 2♥ - (Pass) ?[/hv]Your are playing at the local club against one of the better pairs. Although maybe a tad lighter than your usual openings you decide to open 1♦, showing 4+ ♦s. The auction proceeds, 2♣ being 10+ natural. What do you bid now? Double showed the majors and points. Fluffy
2♠ I think, 2NT and 3NT are appealing, I want partner to bid 3♣ before I bid 3NT

Maybe I'm crazier. If people are even considering pass as an option, they must think that 2H is not forcing. Does that mean that redouble is the only way responder can force with a good hand on this auction? Or is there another way? If RHO is about to bounce to 4S, that agreement seems sub-optimal, but what do I know.

Bbradley62
Assuming 2H was natural, I thought the question was whether to bid 3H or 4H. Me too. 3♥.
whereagles
3♥. I consider this a non-problem :)
Nilz
Assuming 2H was natural, I thought the question was whether to bid 3H or 4H. Me too. 3♥. The only problem with raising hearts is that I'd be dummy. So with regards to the thread title, if playing with my mum, then I can understand someone who would pass, since she can't play bridge. dburn
2♠ I think, 2NT and 3NT are appealing, I want partner to bid 3♣ before I bid 3NT You don't want to raise hearts?I don't want to raise hearts if, following LHO's double of 2♦ showing "majors and points", partner might not have hearts. Perhaps partner is showing a heart guard but no spade guard for notrump purposes. Perhaps partner expects me to realise this, since partner did not respond 1♥ to 1♦ nor redouble 2♦, which partner might be expected to do with length and strength in (at least) one of the majors. Mind you, the whole thing is a bit of a puzzle - could not LHO have doubled one diamond to show "majors and points"? The only reason I can see for not doing this is that he also has diamonds, which leaves him very short in clubs. This means that we won't make whatever it is we end up in (as we usually don't when we open a weak three-suited hand and do not find a fit in short order). Still, I'm not going to pass a forcing bid, and I guess I have a spade guard of sorts, so I had better bid 2NT. I don't like it, but I'm not paid to like it. jdonn
It's clear to me partner showed hearts so I raise. I don't buy that partner should be showing stoppers any more than after 1♦ (X). Especially if it's mum.

jjbrr
what did mum have to say about you opening with 10 honor count points?
sectorzz9
Looks like partner has hearts, and I certainly have hearts, so I'm bidding 3♥.
Little Kid
what did mum have to say about you opening with 10 honor count points? When dummy came down after the bidding she started sighing and then played her contract  I mentioned something about trust in her declarer play which seemed to work as an excuse :P

I don't get paid when I play with my mum. :) I would never ever open 1D playing with my mum - with my mum, my bids must be what she wants, not what I want. Am I not my mother's son? Though Pass is obviously the right call under the circumstances, I would probably bid either 2S or 3H with regret, me being too wimpish to Pass 2H. pooltuna
next time you need to be sure mum has a full box of bidding cards. Ones that include the XX cards.
