A2003
Allow extra 3 to 5 open tables and extra time(2-3 minutes) to join the tournament for latecomers. If someone is late for couple of minutes for various reasons, they can still join the tournament. They don't have to wait 1 more hour for the next one.
diana_eva
Adding time would mess up the whole ACBL schedule... Esp for speedballs, where every minute is critical.
TrialBid
I agree that Speedballs can't accept latecomers. However, how about the Individuals and slow pair games? Maybe a holding tank of late entrants that will be allowed into the game whenever a full table is made during the first 5 minutes or so? That could also be a revenue enhancer: give people a chance to buy the Sitout spaces before filling them. And there's no reason why anyone should be denied late entry to any of the Robot games. Again, it's just turning down money if you don't let folks in.

It is not uncommon for me to miss a tournament playing with a 7pm PT start time, especially because I've noticed this tournament (Monday nights) not infrequently starts a minute early. It is difficult leaving work on time to start this event, and more than one time I've been locked out even when both my partner and I are on BBO (having just logged on), but before we can join. So even a 1 or 2 minute grace period would make a difference.
Jacki
I'll see what the programmers have to say. If going in, a pair knows they may have one average board it might not be such a bad thing to be able to add people for a minute or two after a game begins. Let me see what the guys who write all our incredible bridge programs think. I know if it's possible they'll at least discuss it. Personally, I like the idea.
