quiddity
ugh - maybe 2♥ 4♦ X 5♣ pass..?
jjbrr
2H 2S p 3C p 3S p 3NT AP W is way too light for 4D in my style
gnasher
2H 2S p 3C p 3S p 3NT AP As West, would you be entirely happy that your hand was what partner was expecting?
gnasher
2♥ 4♦ dbl 5♣dbl pass pass pass That seems to be one off on an endplay.
jjbrr
2H 2S p 3C p 3S p 3NT AP As West, would you be entirely happy that your hand was what partner was expecting? I expect my partner to expect that I have spades and diamonds and enough values to overcall. Given that, I really can't complain. I expect 3NT to be a pretty decent game, probably the best game, and if 5m is better, we probably still have play for 3NT anyway. So... yes. gwnn
do you play inverted pointed suits on the first or the second rounds jjbrr?
peachy
(2H) 2S West hand is a little too weak for a 4D call (if that is Leaping Michaels promsssing diamonds and the other major 5-5 or better).Worse yet, if the opening is 2D Multi, and it is unknown which major suit opener has, then 4D is completely wrong. jjbrr
do you play inverted pointed suits on the first or the second rounds jjbrr? Oh sorry. 3S was a typo. The D is right next to the S. Should be 2S then 3D lol
gwnn
kind of weird that three out of four suits are so close on the keyboard. never realised it before.
Siegmund
Put me down for something real simple: 2H 2S P 3NT. At least it's a makeable contract, and it avoids misunderstandings. (I am constrained a bit by system... new suit by advancer, 1S 2H P 3C, for instance, is agreed to be a fit-non-jump with my regular p, so 2H 2S P 3C has potential to be misunderstood in two different ways, either as not showing such a good hand or as implying some spade tolerace.) jdonn
I overcall 4♦ as west for sure and don't even find it close. What can you say, on a bad day partner is 1-1 in your suits.
gwnn
Iceland won 12 imps vs England here after 2♠-4♦-p-6NTp-p-x and 2♦*-2♠-stuff-3NT

Cyberyeti
6NT lol Not lol at all, he expected a much better hand for 4D as I would. Add the K to at least one of partner's suits as a minimum.
jdonn
6NT lol Not lol at all, he expected a much better hand for 4D as I would. Add the K to at least one of partner's suits as a minimum. So you need AKxxx x AKQxxx x, as a "minimum" huh? So partner bids slam with xx xxx xxxx Axxx I assume? No reason to even invite since it makes opposite a minimum! Well ok I exagerate slightly (and I messed up the hand). But I find these requirements ridiculous. It's 6-5 you know...
Cyberyeti
AKQxx, AQxxxx would be pretty minimum, particularly if you play (as we do) that 4D is forcing.
MFA
Another one of the crazy misfits from Oostend. I overcall 4♦ as west for sure and don't even find it close. What can you say, on a bad day partner is 1-1 in your suits.I fully agree, not close at all. At our table it went2♥-4♦-P-4♠P-P-X-5♣X- all pass. I don't know if partner should have doubled 4♦ also. It seems sensible enough to me to wait and hear what advancer is going to do. Teammates bid:2♥-4♦-X-5♣X- all pass
