Whats lower limit for 3rd seat?

Recommended Posts

If you want answers from TDs you would be better off posting in the laws and rulings forums.

(I'm assuming for sake of argument that the hand in question is actually JTxx, Qxx, x, KQxxx.)

As others have said, whether it is a psyche or not depends on the pair's agreements. An agreement to open this light may or may not be permitted; it is in England (but only in 3rd/4th).

Would J10xx QXXX X KQxxx qualify for 3rd seat opening? If you were a TD would you condiser this hand a psyche open or normal 3rd seat opening?

Please only comment if you are qualified, thank you.

considering where you posted this what are your definitions for "qualified"? You aren't one of those people who open a table in the MBR and advertise for "only real experts" are you?

i have seen partner open this against me in 3rd seat, 1club, never any thing good came of it so i bid them farewell.

but i could live with a 1 spade opening only

i am qualified, the experts at the main club so scared of me they deny me seats

I am not qualified to say whether it's a psyche or not. It really depends if it's their style to open this kind of hands. If their cc said explicitly that they don't open very light in 3rd seat then it's either a psyche or a misbid. Otherwise I would think it isn't.

oh anyway sure I'd always open 1. If I was playing precision I would contemplate a 2 bid to be honest.

lol. I was about to post, and will now post, that I would never open this hand. Too light to be a light opener, for me, and too strong to be a psyche.

I hardly ever psyche these days, but when I did, we had a rule (that we announced) that psyches were rarely as much as 5 hcp. 8 is way too strong....they are less likely to make game, partner is less likely to be warned by their action that someone is psyching (and he is allowed to deduce its you, if he does so based on bridge logic) and so on. Besides, 1 is an anti-preempt.

A fake precision 2 is more attractive since it a real preempt.

I sometimes describe my 3 suited 2 opener in precision as 4415 minus any card. I guess this hand doesn't qualify since the last step of the description hasn't occured yet. :)

Indeed it can hardly be a deliberate gross misdescription when someone else gave you the fourteen cards.
