Phil
MPs, KQx KTx x AK8xxx 1♣ - 1♠;?
MarkDean
none of the above. 2H for me.
rogerclee
Yeah agree with 2H.
Cascade
3♣ showing six clubs and three spades. I dislike a style where 2♥ can show this hand. Even if you can get back to 4♠ when partner strongly raises hearts you must lose out somewhere - when you want to cue bid spades for example. jdonn
3♣ showing six clubs and three spades. I dislike a style where 2♥ can show this hand. Even if you can get back to 4♠ when partner strongly raises hearts you must lose out somewhere - when you want to cue bid spades for example. If 3♣ shows 3 spades on the side you have to put 3♣ rebids without 3 spades in some other bid, thus losing something on that bid. What's the difference? To me it's all just what people are comfortable with.
gwnn
3C for me; I know I was convinced by jdonn last time this came up that 3C is inferior but I have forgot in the meantime. I hope I remember to reverse next time.
pooltuna
MPs, KQx KTx x AK8xxx 1♣ - 1♠;? you need a call that will encourage partner to try for game with a marginal hand and IMO 2♠ is your best shot2♠>3♣>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2♣
hanp
I would also bid 2H, second choice 3C. Of course if I had a bid that shows this hand, I would choose that bid.
Phil
If you had a bid that SHOWED this hand it wouldn't be a problem would it? I assume the 2♥ bidders are bidding a quiet 3♣ over 2N?
gwnn
What's so quiet about it? partner denied 5 spades and we promised reverse values.
hanp
If you had a bid that SHOWED this hand it wouldn't be a problem would it? I absolutely agree with you. I assume the 2♥ bidders are bidding a quiet 3♣ over 2N? Definitely.
Fluffy
I'd bid 2♣ given that partner's 1♠ shows diamonds, ain't that an option also?. Seriously, I'd bid 2♣
Siegmund
I voted 3C, but would at least seriously consider 2H at the table. I would not remotely seriously consider 2S (WAY too strong for a simple raise) or 2C. I do wish I had a better way to show this type of hand. Phil
I (obviously) had not considered 2♥, but I think I like it. It seems to be a good solution for the 3316/3136 variety of the death hand.
Hanoi5
I'm gonna turn into Roth and say that if partner doesn't have a re-bid over 2♣ that might be our best contract.
