Phil Posted June 27, 2010 Report Share Posted June 27, 2010 I ran through a few sims in my brain this AM and 3♣ and 2♥ were pretty similar assuming 5-1 heart breaks and 4-1 clubs. However, we don't know for sure clubs are bad, and they haven't doubled us yet. I would also like a club lead in case they bid 3N. So 3♣ for me. No reason to doubt the opponents that 2♥ doubled won't go well for us. 3♣ might be just as bad or worse, but sometimes it will be a lot better. I am happy to risk the occasional worse score from 3♣X to avoid many bad 2♥X scores. I guess if your 2♥ openings are pretty solid there is more of a case for passing.
