blackshoe
RHO deals and passes. You open a preemptive 3♠. LHO passes. Partner bids 5♦. Bonus question: what kind of hand does he have?
Hanoi5
Unless we have agreed on something special I'd pass 5♦.
mikeh
I would expect most players to think this is to play. I would expect some players to think this is exclusion keycard. I would expect some players bidding 5♦ to think one of the foregoing and some of the players who bid 3♠ to think the other, with much amusement ensuing to the opps. Personally, absent agreement to the contrary, I would take this as natural and to play. He is wide open in a rounded suit, else he'd bid 3N. So maybe x x AKQJxxxx AKx or similar...but trying to guess the hand is really a waste of time.
jjbrr
exclusion since 4♦ is forcing then 5♦ is signoff.
jdonn
Exclusion? NF? Wth? Partner just bid game at his first opportunity to bid. He wants to play there!

campboy
For me, 4♦ would be cue so 5♦ is to play.
rogerclee
umm, not forcing
peachy
I am a general agreements person and my general agreement over preempt is that new suit below game is forcing, so this is not forcing.

By agreement, it could be exclusion. Otherwise, a sign-off with say ♠ xx ♥ xx ♦ KQJxxxxxx ♣ -
movingon
to play
gwnn
Choice of games between hearts and clubs of course. Promises 5 hearts and 7 clubs, but could be 6-7 sometimes. How else are you going to bid it?
whereagles
I don't have it defined, but I do have 3♠-4♦ defined as control asking bid, so I would say EKCB.
gwnn
so because you don't have a natural diamond bid available on the 4 level, a diamond bid on the 5 level is artificial?
whereagles
I have defined as "to play" sequences of this kind 2/3/4x 4M except 4♥-4♠, which is a control asking bid. Other bids post-pree are CABs. Dunno if this is the best, but it's liveable.
andy_h
First ever bid at the game level is to play.
jdonn
The only thing worthwhile to come out of this thread is Phil's quote about me. Oh shoot that was the other thread, I take it back lol.
blackshoe
It's not worthwhile to know how the majority of players play a particular call?
jdonn
I suppose it will serve me well in the next forums individual.
