whereagles
Dbl. This is a bit of a misfit and opps insist on bidding?

gnasher
5♦. It's far too early to give up on the eight-card suit.
rogerclee
Is pass clearly wrong or something? Pretty surprised this is not even being discussed as an option.

It was my second choice, but a distant one. Yes a distant second, but another first choice. In German we have the saying: Only the monkeys climb alone. So 5 ♦ would be a monkey bid according to that definition. My partner heared me bidding diamonds twice, didn't he?
gwnn
but we have8!
Cascade
but we have8! How many cards do you think we have shown? I think partner has at least eleven cards in hearts and clubs otherwise she might have done something else over 3♠. Maybe there are some rare exceptions 0=5=3=5 perhaps. Therefore I expect 4♦ to show at least seven or rarely six very good ones.
ArtK78
Double. I believe that I have 2 defensive tricks and a partner who opened the bidding, and I have no assurance that my side is making anything above the 4 level (indeed, I have no assurance that my side is making anything AT the 4 level). As for the title of this thread, I am sure the answer is yes.

What would partner have done with xx AKQxx x KQJ10x ? Therefore I expect 4♦ to show at least seven or rarely six very good ones.I agree with that. Did anyone mention that we have eight? hanp
I think I would pass, never double.

What would partner have done with xx AKQxx x KQJ10x ? I would normally be reluctant to go past 3NT with something as ordinary as five-five. I suppose I concede that a pure five-five is possible. With five-five I would normally double or pass if it is clearly forcing and keeps 3NT in the picture.

gwnn
8 card suits are special because opposite as little as x, we may be in a 9 card fit.
Cascade
... and opposite as much as - we can't take any finesses.
gwnn
But that's not special for 8 card suits ;)

Cascade
I doubled. I thought or maybe just hoped that partner would often pull with two diamonds. The defense won four top tricks - 2 hearts, 1 diamond and 1 club and we scored all three of our trumps with ruffs. Partner was 1=6=0=6. Crunch3nt
I think double is clear as well. That brings the vote to 6 for double, 2 for pass, 2 for 5D and 1 for 5H. Perhaps then, you are crazy, as you think the majority action is crazy? :D
