resorting the hand

first hand of the european bridge championships, you pick

Kxxx

Axx

KQ

Axxx

Nobody vul, you quickly open a 15-17 1NT while you explain to the caddy who is gonna score the hands for you (actually an old lady) how the bridgemate works and what she is suposed to do, and the trolley comes back

1NT-p-2-3

Now you look again at your hand and something has happened, the hand that came sorted suit by suit didn't really come suit by suit.

Kxxx

AKQxx

-

Axxx

take it from there.

I might just bid 6, obviously we won't be having an intelligent auction from here. Even Qxxxx of spades and out gives me some kind of play if they don't find a club lead.

Agreed. In fact, we might make opposite as little as xxxxx Jx xxx xxx.

Reminds me of a hand my partner held in a far less important event about 10 years ago. He opened 1N with some 4=4 in the reds, only to realize partway through that both reds were diamonds. We survived somehow, but the opps, who missed their huge heart fit, were less amused.

This reminds me of picking up something like Axxx, KJx, xx, KQxx, so I open a weak no trump, partner responds 2H transfer, and at this point I realise I have 4 clubs, 2 diamonds, three hearts and 4 clubs.

If I'm feeling brave I bid 5D, otherwise 4D on your hand.

6 or 4 then 6 but I can't imagine this is going to be worked out by partner.

Yes I have had this happen to. Playing a weak NT my partner opened 1NT and after the opponents overcalled in hearts!!! he discovered he had two four-card spade suits and rebid 4 on his own.

I can't say I've ever done anything like this.

I'd just bid 6. I thought about 5 exclusion, and I think partner should figure out exactly what happened, but as jdonn says, it's sort of nice if the opponents have no clue what's going on.

This problem arised on my team mates table, The player hee picked 5NT, partner didn't know wtf was going on and bid 6 with

7 spades went undoubled, the bridge god wasn't rewarding this time, but he was forgiving, spades 4-0, hearts 4-1, 7 spades went down 4, for -200 only 3 imps against 6 spades -2
