why is it better than the weierstrass function?

I'd have to agree with Ant that the Blancmange function is more beautiful, but the historical relevance of the Weierstrass function is greater so if I'd have to pick between these two then I'd also go with Weierstrass.

 

However, why would you pick one function when you can have a whole class of functions? Besides, I think the variety and complexity arising from seemingly simple functions outshines any pathological function.
