I can't imagine 5S being passed out.

But I would not bid 6D very often on the 5D bidder's hand, I would either double or pass unless I had a very unsually hand.

One reason to redouble is on a hand that hopes 5Dx is making, isn't entirely sure, but really wants them to bid 5S and is waiting to double it.

We have actually discussed this. In this instance, only, the pass and the double are a bit different than normal for a FP --pass=5D was a long suit stretch, and double shows extras. Thus, double is more likely to get us to six than pass.

Reason: the wide range of the 5D bid.

At IMPS & given the colors, you can be sure this is forcing. At MPs I am less sure.

:D It's not only forcing, it has a specific meaning - to wit, my 5 bid had plenty of playing strength, and I'm not looking at two quick losers - conceivably I could have three small spades. The operative rule is that we voluntarily bid game to make - and pard seconded the motion - hence the forcing pass is clearly in force.

At this vulnerability 5 surely must have some playing strength, so I agree that pass is forcing. What about reversed vulnerability, where 5 may be a sacrifice? What with equal vulnerability? Where do we draw the line?

I tried this once and I'm not so keen to try it again. But I probably had the wrong hand (or, at least, partner did!! :))
