Would you double for take-out

Overcalling with trashy 5-card suits, at the 2-level, opposite a passed partner, with a balanced hand with scattered honours, is not winning bridge.

Perhaps you'd like to think so. But in practice such "revolting" overcalls work far better than you give them credit for.

Note also that 2 isn't my style either - I prefer double. I just I can live with 2because playing a 4-3 red fit (likely if I double) isn't my style either.

come to think of it... I just proved pass is the right bid in my style, ahah!

Partner usually has some spades. He also has at least a few points so we should fight the partscore battle. Admittedly, it looks ugly, but the easiest way to get to what may well be our best denomination is simply to bid 1NT. Should opps cash in 5 spades and 2 aces, then 2 spades probably makes. And we will still reach our heart contract when partner has 5+. Even if we should get to 3 notrumps without a sound stopper, spades may block.

Ugh, I thought it had been 1S - P - P - ?

I would pass with this hand without doubt
