kfay
If you endanger your contract trying to beer, but it works (and you don't pitch any tricks), it's legit right? Whereas if you go down when you could have made it now you owe your partner, correct? A regular forum guy says even if you're in danger of going down -- no beer. Personally I disagree. karlson
http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=31871 Glad you're consistent. I like this interpretation, but yeah, some disagree.

Codo
two beers for partner.
mycroft
The question I want to know is: if you do pitch a trick in a beer play, but it's a legitimate trick to pitch (safety play for the contract at IMPs, say), does it still count? vuroth
I can't imagine why a safety play would cost a beer.
jjbrr
I've always played that you can't risk your contract and/or drop overtricks or risk overtricks to get the beer, within reason.
manudude03
I play it you can risk the contract/overtricks if you want, but if it costs you owe p a beer. 2 beers if claimed on a squeeze or endplay (requires co-operative opps). Otherwise, its just simply must go plus and can't be playing in diamonds.
MarkDean
You can risk your contract for beer, but if you do so and it actually costs the contract (or even an extra trick), you owe your partner a case.

Yeah that seems pretty good.
mycroft
I've always played that you can't make a "less tricks" line of play for the beer, even if it makes the contract, which is why I ask about this one. If the non-beer line of play makes +1 against anything but a 5-0, but goes down otherwise, and the beer line makes 100%, the question is does taking the beer play count as "pitching a trick" at MPs? I agree with kfay, at IMPs it seems automatic (because it's the "right play" anyway).
NickRW
...the question is does taking the beer play count as "pitching a trick" at MPs?... At MPs - with those odds - in my view it is pitching a trick. Nick
