Far too old for one of a major, and marginally too old for 1NT. What remains is left as an exercise for the reader.

A more interesting exercise for the reader is figuring out what you think the auction is, as you seem to overlook what else remains. Well, I thought the auction was two passes and 1♦ to me. Could be right to bid four clubs, but not very likely. Partners always seem to think I have something when I bid two clubs. Maybe I should bid three. What do you reckon? the hog
This is one exception for me that 2m is a good overcall. I ty to bid 2c oer 1D as often as possible.2C.

Change the ♣8 to the nine, and 3♣ is automatic. But I don't sit around, waiting for the perfect hand, so 3♣ it is.

gwnn
3♣ when NV, pass when V but I'm sure I'd sometimes bid 2c at the table.
whereagles
2♣, regardless of vulnerability. Not 3 because if pard has like a 54 majors with 8-9 hcp (likely) opps can't make squat.
655321
Pass. Also I would like to take this opportunity to describe 3♣ as a joke.
dake50
2C that doesn't ask partner's max pass with stop to 3NT is a waste. May show 2M just in case. As partner opens 1M lightly, but did not, way likely 3C fits and is preempt effective.
pooltuna
[hv=d=w&v=b&s=sj7h43dk732ckqjt8]133|100|Scoring: MP(Pass)-Pass-(1♦)-?[/hv] 2c easy...blame SAbine... assuming you pass and the auction continues ...(1NT) P (2NT) P (3NT) all pass ; were you expecting a ♣ lead :) Sabine Auken(sp?) is right, introduce as much noise as risk/reward makes possible into the opponent's auction. MFA
Pass. Partner will act too often if we overcall and the undertricks will be expensive.
gnasher
I don't think 3♣ is a joke, bit it seems too dangerous at matchpoints and at this vulnerability. I'd do it with nobody vulnerable at IMPs.
Codo
2 ♣ not even min. Partner has read the same book and knows that I will stretch to bid 2 ♣. 3 club is a smaller joke then pass. Of course all LOLs will pass and everybody is allowed to bid like them....
Free
2♣ is pretty normal imo, I don't understand pass with a passed partner...

Ah I see, Sabine Auken has written a book in which she talked about this auction, so now this is the one exception to the rule that Codo passes anytime it is barely possible. Probably next Art will be bidding too! :P
mcphee
Very reasonable to over call 2C which often makes things award for responder. 3C may work out well but this is not my idea of a pre-emptive hand, but it is the lead I would like to see tabled. MFA
Very reasonable to over call 2C which often makes things award for responder.LHO being a passed hand seriously decreases the preemptive effect of 2♣. He could now bid a nonforcing 2M.

peachy
This is a good opportunity for lead directing overcall as well as make opponents life a little more difficult. I know from my own experience that it is much harder to get hands described after 1D (2C) than it is after 1D (P). More often than not, the responder does not have 4-4 majors and get them both in with a negative double and even if that were the case, I want a club lead in almost whatever contract they play. It is unlikely to be diamonds though. This auction is an exception to the "direct overcall in minor strong with 6+ cards" because robbing them of space is important and the lead direction equally so. Partner is equipped with bridge logic and will not go haywire just because there is overcall from me.
