hotShot
I have no idea even you so called experts seem confused..... geeZ......................... What do you expect, it's the round of 8 of a world championship. This should be the 8 best teams in the world. 5 of them definitely are and I think Ghana, Uruguay and Paraguay had a little luck.It would be easier if the pairing where different, so Paraguay - Spain seems the only save bet. According to the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking (which is bad, but not totaly useless):1 Brazil2 Spain 4 Netherlands 6 Germany7 Argentina 16 Uruguay 31 Paraguay32 Ghana So the QUARTERFINALS are: 57) Netherlands (4) - Brazil (1) 58) Uruguay (16) - Ghana (32) 59) Argentina (7) - Germany (6) 60) Paraguay (31) - Spain (2) 57 and 59 are close matches everybody has to guess. 60 should be a clear win for Spain. 58 is interesting because Ghana is underrated and Uruguay had a lot of luck getting there. gwnn
Disagree with hotShot about Uruguay. I think they fully deserve to be here, they played very good football in the groups and the second round. I guess they did get a little lucky that the seeded team in their group was as bad as ZA but I think Korea was an average group runner-up, not especially weak.MexicoKoreaGhanaEnglandJapanSlovakiaChilePortugal I really liked seeing them play this tournament so far. hanp
I also enjoyed watching England. And France too. I don't think Netherlands-Brazil is a close match, Brazil has made a much more solid impression. It's not impossible for the Netherlands to win but I'd say it's 70-30 in favor of Brazil. Agree that Argentina - Germany is tough to predict, I hope Germany wins with beautiful soccer.
Aberlour10
I don't think Netherlands-Brazil is a close match. I don't agree. It depends on....if the team Netherlands will get a really "good day", then they are able to beat these Brazilians for sure. If they show only the avarage performence, this will be not enough. I see the chance for both by 50:

Remember jdonn's post? The difference in FIFA world rankings between the matchups: Uruguay 16, South Korea 47 = 31Netherlands 4, Slovakia 34 = 30USA 14, Ghana 32 = 18Brazil 1, Chile 18 = 17Paraguay 31, Japan 45 = 14Argentina 7, Mexico 17 =10Germany 6, England 8 = 2Spain 2, Portugal 3 = 1 Except for USA -Ghana the higher ranked teams won. South Korea and Japan seemed to be the weakest. (This will obviously change when the ranking is updated after the WC.) And who expected that France would not qualify from a group with:9 France 16 Uruguay17 Mexico83 South Africa Of cause Uruguay deserves to be in the round of 8, but Portugal has meet Brasil and Spain on their way out of the tourney. Could you agree that Uruguay had more luck than Portugal?
gwnn
Sure. They had more luck than Portugal, but less than ghana, I'd say.

NickRW
I also enjoyed watching England. And France too. Not if you're English or French - or Italian for that matter. Bloody painful would be more apt.

I see the chance for both by 50:50 Yeah - well that is generally the way with the Brazillians - who as usual are performing very well. If there is a weakness in the Brazillian game over the years I'd say it was that they always seem to be cruising in 4th gear - but if a team can pressurise them and deny them some of the posession then they don't seem to have an overdrive gear to go into. In other words another good team always has a chance against them - if they work their b***s off. Nick
