Siegmund
Been to it several times in the past, and enjoyed it, but not this year.
Cascade
http://www.d19.org/Penticton/ Is anyone going here? If no one is going they should cancel. So I am guessing yes someone is going. Although one probably won't be enough.
jillybean
Haha very funny, Wayne. It is a very popular tournament with the players from Vancouver, apparently everyone who is anyone goes (and for those who just like to party), which is why I am going this year :) yippee

Phil
3rd largest regional (I think). Heard great things about it - kind of like a Gatlinberg - cheap lodging and food. Sort of a hassle to get to however - six hours drive from Seattle (maybe 5 from Vancover(?)). When I looked at it, there was a local airport but the prices were much higher to get there. I had a date for Penticton last year but it got canceled.
jillybean
395km from Vancouver to Penticton
MarkDean
Phil is a Californian. In California, we measure distances in minutes/hours. And don't even get me started on kilometers!
Phil
In California, we measure distances in minutes/hours. I love explaining to people from the midwest how Southern California expands and contracts throghout the day :)
ggwhiz
I've only been there once, in 03 and it was superb!!!! Tough to get to but cheap accomodations that are usually a 2 story motel on the waterfront facing another one with an excellent party space in between. Many people booked their spot for next year on the way out of town. A winery tour between sessions, a casino, the beach...... a bit of bridge gets played too. mgoetze
If you can't get a flight to Penticton, book one to Kelowna instead, and rent a motorboat. Okanagan Lake is very beautiful - stop in Peachland for half-way ice cream, and don't forget to do some swimming.

jillybean
Whoop!, I played in a 19 table, district wide "stac" game Friday night with a new partner and we tied for first in C and second in B. It's funny, we were playing a very basic card that we put together 10minutes before the game and just played a good solid game, lots of good defense. Hopefuly I will play as well in the regional, I'll post my bloopers and hopefuly some good hands when I get back. This isn't the right forum for TD issues, enough to say the esteemed Friday night director won't forget his book next time :P Here's a hand from the game [hv=d=e&v=n&s=s982h97643da8ct32]133|100|Scoring: MPpartner opens 4th seat2♣:2♦*3♣:?[/hv] *waiting, your bid
MarkDean
I know I am old-fashioned like this, but I like to bid my long suit: 3♥ for me.
jjbrr
lol@old-fashioned. 3♥ is sooo obvious. i'll bid 4♣ next time probably.
JoAnneM
If Penticton doesn't work come to Seaside, Oregon in October which is also becoming a destination Regional, even though ACBL has sabotaged it this year with Philadelphia. Both Penticton and Seaside are wonderful Northwest tournaments.

JoAnneM
I was only at the Portland Regional for a few days to attend the final Reno NABC planning meeting and then I played with Ed Freeman on Chris's KO team as a substitute. BTW California has been rocking and rolling the last few days: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/rec...quakes_all.html
