bluecalm
I don't think it's a problem hand really.Make it xx Ax AKQxxx KQx and we are talking but probably still 2NT due to lack of something else."Standard" is full of holes and this is one of them. gwnn
2NT wtp?
kenrexford
The way I see it, there are only two legitimate options. I could bid 2NT. If I think 2NT is not enough, surely a major rebid was not a surprise. I probably should have opened 2NT instead of 1♦. 2NT just seems right to me. 18 HCP, with a six-card minor. 8 controls (26.67-18=8.67=+2). I would have liked A109xxx in diamonds, but then that's too easy.
gnasher
I opened 2NT.
mike777
2NT wtp? ditto.
aguahombre
I opened 2NT. That doesn't surprise me. This hand screams for suit play, but since the texture of the diamond suit is so good, it is certainly worth a 2 point upgrade for notrump. mike777
fwiw I do think jump rebids in a minor are a problem in 2/1......they are for me. One partial solution is to open or rebid nt when you do not have a stiff or void..... For me this was an easy solution if not perfect.....but I grant you can redo the hand I will have a problem...... Siegmund
2NT not close. Presumably part 2 will be less obvious?
Phil
2N is normal. I assume the 'Josh-style rebid' is 2♣. Unfortunately not many problems are solved with that choice.

peachy
fwiw I do think jump rebids in a minor are a problem in 2/1......they are for me. I don't see how 2/1 has anything to do with the auction 1D-1H-3D, or 1D-1H-2NT.But maybe it is just that I don't see.

peachy
Okay, I give up. You agree with yourself "it is tough in 2/1". I agree with myself that 2/1 system has nothing to do with the posted problem. It is all clear now :)

ONEferBRID
The "Josh rebid", I believe, would be a 3C-jump ( GF ) and would work well here.2NT.... is a very close 2nd.... eventho it is non-forcing( unless you play it as forcing ).3D-jump .....has to be the worst... as it is "more non-forcing".... and when you see Responder's hand ( below ), he now has a forcing problem of his own. Part 2 Here is Responder's hand.Go for it with your favorite auction ( you can even start with a 2NT open if you so desire ).6H+1 scores worst.6NT+1 ...better.7NT scores a bunch. gwnn
actually I agree that a 2NT opening is most appropriate with this hand but I rarely remember to properly think ahead in the bidding :) and I would in practice end up with this slight underbid of "18-19"
hanp
Either open 2NT or rebid 2NT.
bluecalm
I don't see any problems with this hand. Responder sets hearts whatever his method opposite strong 2NT is (opener or rebid or w/e) then asks for aces then asks for kings and bid 7NT.It has nothing to do with initial choice of openers/rebids imo.I am pretty sure 2 lols at my club would bid this grand without any problems (but again, lols at my club would be in GF auction way below 2NT).
