 ---- 4    Pass  ?

Playing with a pick up partner, who on the first 4 hands of a Board a Match team match seems reasonable, but you have not disccussed much, and certainly not preemptive ideas. What do you bid?

Maybe this poll needs a redo - the auction implies 4S was by LHO but the initial thread name implies that partner bid 4S. I'll bet that some people voted as if partner opened 4S and others voted with the auction in the text which has LHO bidding 4S. I know my answer would be different!

Hi Ben

I'm going to pass, however, I recognize that 5C or even 6C could be correct.

Its unclear whether partner's Spade values are going to be worth anything in a Club contract. Assume that partner has the AK of Spades...

Where is my transport to get discards on those tricks?

In a Spade contract, its easy to get to my hand to take discards on the my club honors.

Pass seems clearcut.

OK, I was one of the ones who answered this poll with the auction as it was before it was edited, i.e. 4s p p ?. Here, I pass. Please subtract 1 vote from 6C and add 1 vote to pass.

What is "BAM-scoring"???

I think I'd bid 5, invite slam with GOOD s...

BAM is a neat way to play teams. It stands for "Board a match". You get 1 point if your score is higher than your opponents (in team format), they get one if theirs in higher, and you both get 1/2 point if the scores are the same. Think of it as a two table Matchpoint contest. with at top of 1.

Seems a clear pass.

I'm nowhere near as confident as other posters that 6 is such a great place. This really needs partner to hold a prime red suit card and trump length, all of which seems against the odds. Seems more likely partner would have AKQxxxxx with 6 making rather than 6.

Ok enough answers. I agree 100% that pass is correct. Turns out that a very lucky 6 can make, so something here for everyone. The ones who bid 6 can be satisified that on the actual hand that worked best. Those of us who pass, did so correctly in theory I think. Our hand and auction...

In a pickup partnership, we had no agrreement about over compttition after blackwood. My hand was sooo good for a prempt not vul (great 7 card suit), so when the next hand bid 5 I had no good bid (always agree dopi or something). You can see that when I bid 6 we got too high.

Initially I thought that a raise to 5 was reasonable as partner would go on with a solid trump suit.

This will be fine when it happens.

However the downside and I think it is a big down side is that partner will go on with only semi-solid trump suit or a deep trump loser that he does not expect as he will not be expecting our void and we will still have a loser outside. You will need to steal a lot of 6 on a non-diamond lead to make up for this.
