Respond to t/o double

Recommended Posts

Team event, white vs. red, you hold Jxxx Txx - KJTxxx

RHO deals and passes, you pass, LHO opens 1 (4+ Spades), partner doubles and RHO bids 2 (nonforcing). Your bid?

a competitive 3 (i.e. don't get idiotic on me partner)

I don't, as I don't want to Dbl with a weak hand and both minors.

Incidentally, if you were making detailed agreements for this auction, you should note that you have not only pass, DBL and 2NT, but also 2 available.

OK, so I guess my 4 bid was somehow crazy. What can I say, I'm young. Meanwhile, partner raised to 5, all pass. The A was lead

followed by a spade, ruffed by North, and a diamond return. Your plan for taking the remaining tricks?

3 seems normal, with an extra club (and without so many major suit losers perhaps) 5 would be possible, but 4 doesn't appeal to me.

In the 4 card ending LHO cannot keep his A guarded as well as keeping 3 spades, you have a complete count so you either ruff out his A or cash the spades.
