kfay
KQxx xxxx A8x K10 w/w you open a weak NT. 1NT-2♠*2NT-3♥*4♦-5♦Lho doubles back to you. 2♠ can be: 1) balanced invite, 2) just diamonds, 3) weak w/ both minors, 4) strong with both minors Partner has door #4, with short hearts. Phil
Yes. My system doesn't allow me to make a stronger move over 3♥?
kfay
Yes. My system doesn't allow me to make a stronger move over 3♥? Well sure you could bid 4♥, but clearly there is ambiguity to this (which I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate... so I think bids like this are terrible). 3♠ is undiscussed but you've now discussed it. bluecalm
I wouldn't rdbl.He can easily have KQx + A or something like that. Or even KQxx + A and we will be down 2 after ♥ leads.
gnasher
Why would you want to make a stronger move over 3♥? 4♦ says that you're suitable anyway, and it's not as though you have a perfect hand - ♠Q isn't necessarily working, you have only three diamonds, and you're minimum. I think redouble would be most unwise. If you have a descriptive uncontested sequence to game, hinting at slam interest on the way, and someone doubles the final contract, you are probably going about two down. Would it be such a surprise to find that you have an ace and three trumps to lose, courtesy of a 5-0 break?
gszeszycki
If our minors had been reversed and we were in 5c X i would xx to warn p that my club preference was weak in case they were 64 in minors (unless that was impossible under your system) here however the xx can serve no useful purpose since it would force us to the 6 level. I have a pretty good hand for p and should not be ashamed to play 5d X.
OleBerg
I don't care. On the plus side, it is -1 at most, and might easily make. On the minus side, 5♦ might not be the standard contract, which could make -200 look a little silly. And I would consider 4♦ to be as strong as any other possible bid. hanp
We are likely in a 5-3 fit, and partner has not shown any interest in slam. I don't think a redouble is even conceivable. Even if partner has as good a hand as Ax x Q10xxx AQxxx (and that hand would make a slam try!), I'd expect 5D to be down 1 or 2 after the double. mikegill
If I really thought my LHO was bad enough to double because he has a bunch of HCP (many of which were in hearts), then maybe I would think about playing 20 diamonds. But otherwise, easy pass. Partner heard the double too and he seems content to play only 10 diamonds.
Jlall
you can never redouble with bad trumps lol
