3 LR or better in . I might exclusion 5 if things go well Oo

Huh, 3D is pass or correct in Cs. Ok on this hand partner will no doubt bid 4C, but....

I bid 5H

But you are never shy to suggest your preferred treatments. You could try a little harder to accept those of others. I also start 3 which I also play as an artificial spade raise.

Its not my peferred agreement. That is standard opposite a michaels.

Hmm. I had never considered "pass or correct" as a use for 3D on this Michaels auction. Now, I find out it is standard. Guess I am never too old to learn.

Now I will wait for a hand where I would want to use 3D for that standard purpose.

I cannot think of any other meaning for a 5 bid than asking for a heart control. So that is my choice.

Any sort of cue bid or artificial raise followed by a 5 bid may be misconstrued as a general slam try - especially if partner's next call is 4. So, this is probably your last opportunity to make the heart control ask.

No doubt, that is what 2NT means, I just am not sure what good the inormation will do us. Eventually I only want to find out if partner has a heart control, so your option two seems the simplest to this simple person.

edit: also not sure I want the opps to know if we have an 11-card diamond fit. If there is a lightner double, I would rather opener choose his 4-card club suit to lead, than his doubleton diamond.

Standard is that 2NT ask for the minor and for the strength. Certainly standard bidding here is something like:

2NT

3C = Cs min

3D = Ds min

3H = C max

3S = D max

Playing Pass/correct bids over 2 suited bids is standard practice here except amongst beginners.

Not quite the time for a flyer like 7 or 5 exclusion.

1) We will often have a small slam, which is a lot to sacrifice for a grand slam swindle.

2) West will often have AK and lead a top one just as a reflex. Our strength suggests that partner is minimum, so partner probably has many values in clubs, therefore west often has good hearts.

3) West will usually not have an attractive alternative to a top heart. OK, perhaps a trump if he has 2+ of those, but still.

4) If we are supposed to be void, west might be suspicious about his partner not raising. Say west has five hearts. Would he readily assume that his partner has about six without raising?

So 5 it is.
