How to bid this hand?

3C - pass - 4C - 4NT (showing 2 suits)

pass - 5D- pass - ?

 

How would you bid this?

Agree with the bidding so far and would bid 5NT (choice of slams) now.

 

Slam is not certain but I cannot pass when 12 tricks are likely and I haven't shown the full strength of my hand so can't expect partner to bid more than 5♦ on most hands where slam is good. A grand slam try is too much - partner is quite unlikely to have the ♠A and he could well accept without it given that he has shown nothing.

 

Partner has better diamonds than hearts, so 5NT suggests five diamonds and a six card major, allowing us to play 6♥ opposite for example xxxxx xxx Qxx xx. 5♥ also suggests this hand type but slightly weaker and is a non-forcing slam try, maybe the same hand without the ♥Q would bid 5♥.

Tough problem. I wonder what 5♣ by partner would be, maybe 4234 suggesting he prefers spades if I had spades and diamonds (assuming 3♣ over 2♣ shows both majors)? If that's the case then logically partner doesn't have spade length so maybe he's 3244 or 4144 or 2254? Think I'm just gonna bid 6♦.

Double-jumping to 4D seems like an unnecessary waste of valuable space ( eventho it is much better than the X , then 4NT ).

 

Here is a simplified 2-suiter system I learned some years ago for a weak-2D open, but applying it to the special 2C! open (= to a real suit, opening values ) :

 

4C = both Majors

3H-jump = H/D

3S-jump = S/D

With the OP bidding, where partner shows a preference to Diam, I'd have to go with 6D ...... unfortunately leaving the ♠K x vulnerable to an opening lead assault .

DAPO/Super MAF uses 2S as 2-suited not Spades, not clubs.

Then Q-bid shows slam try/force, even repeat Q-bid here.

Partner evaluates very well after that description.
