5 or 6 clubs would be my choice. Probably 5 clubs since I have no idea what I am going to do with my hearts.

My logic for double.... I's about a 8.5-9.5 loser hand depending on how you count it, and partner might just be able to show showthing. (e.g. 1NT or or any jump is good..., a 1 is bad...)

I assume you meant an 8.5-9.5 winner hand, unless your declarer play is particularly poor.

The same could be said about:

---

---

Axx

JT98765432

I am reasonably sure I could play this hand for 9 tricks with no help from partner, but that doesn't make it a strong 2 bid.

An extreme example, to be sure. But if you double partner is within his rights to think that you might have some support for spades and/or diamonds. I would venture to say that your spade holding and diamond holding will be a disappointment.

fortunately or unfortunately you will most likely be getting a lead which should also be resolving the problems :) Count me as a 5 caller as well. of course partner will put down 3 and a stiff unless I bid 6 when he puts down 3 small and a stiff non Q :)

6

The value bid is probably 5, and in a strong field, that's what I'd bid, since when I bid slam, they know I'm ready for a heart lead (not for this reason, I suspect). But in most mp games, I'd bid slam....hope RHO wins the A and tries to cash another A. I'd then (I hope) play 8 clubs at him (unless it was apparent that there was a better line). Most mp players get dazed and confused, and I'd expect to win my 3 at trick 13.....of course I'd play the 9 at trick one unless there was a reason not to: say they led the 10 and dummy held xx and a club entry.

I hope they don't bid 6 or 6 :)

If I were going to roll the dice with 6C, I would only do it in a very strong field. Even a beginner can find a singleton heart lead on this auction, and most RHOs can see partner's high-low and subtract from 13.

5 for me.

LOL

Someone doubled and it's 5 you chose to LOL?

I will definitely overcall clubs, and the weaker the field the more likely I overcall 6 instead of 5. Because I think a weak player is much more likely than a strong one to try to cash a spade/diamond ace at trick 2 than to give his partner a heart ruff. However overall I am much more likely to bid 5 than 6 (so I get LOLed?)

MP... equal vuln (can't remember if none or all), LHO deals and passes Partner passes, RHO opens.... 1! Your call?

IMO
  • Over (1) ??, 5 = 10, 2 = 8, _X = 2.
  • After (1) _X (2) 3; (4) ??, 6 = 10, 7 = 9, 5 = 5.
Double worked out quite well :)

If you double:

you gotta be &*()^!! kidding me?!?

heh. guess you two better discuss this one, chas.

We did.

Hopefully, Tyler saw the light when the auction proceeded:

(p)-p-(1)-X-

(2)-3-(4)-6-

(p)-?

and the random BBO expert bid 6 at this point, which of course, was promptly doubled.

Tyler then bid either 6N or 7C (I dont remember), again doubled and off one and of course, 6 was making all along. :P

Well pulling the double was very very very bad. Doubling deserves only two very's but I have to admit, this time it was very effective as we can now bid 6 with some confidence.
