The Swan.

Recommended Posts

Could someone please explain to me the meaning of "the Swan?"

Thanks.

it specifically refers to hands with 74xx (not in suit order) distribution. How it got the name I have no clue.

I seem to recall that it dates back to Culbertson (who was a masterful promoter)

I could easily be wrong...

I thought it was Reese who discussed a 4117 or maybe 7114as a swan.

I would certainly pass partner's double - the hand is fine for defense and it sounds like partner has wasted junk in spades.

Is the first pass forcing after partner bids 3NT? If so, what does it tend to suggest? Extra clubs? Heart tolerance? Bad hand for defense?
