pooltuna
...across the face and say "WAKE UP STUPID" [hv=d=n&v=n&n=sa63ha842daqca843&s=sqjth75dkj7532c65]133|200|Scoring: XIMPSilent opponents1♣ 1♦1♥ 2♦3NT[/hv] opening lead is a small ♠ and your RHO plays small This is one of them :) so plan the play and you get to start thinking after dummy plays cause all of dummy's ♠s are equal

Mbodell
I'm pretty sure there is a bridge master hand that is nearly exactly this. Don't win the "free" finesse opening or it will turn out to be quite costly!
gwnn
seeing as this thread is going nowhere I'd like to mention that normally you'd put declarer South, this really screws with your head, I had to turn my monitor upside down but then I couldn't read the ranks :)

cloa513
The only small risk is win the lead in dummy is five diamonds in one hand then taking the opening finesse is probably the only way to make the hand.
jdonn
I enjoyed seeing that pooltuna had begun a thread with this name before I even looked at the posts.

vuroth
Fortunately I had this solved before hrothgar trumped the thread. The only small risk is win the lead in dummy is five diamonds in one hand then taking the opening finesse is probably the only way to make the hand. It's possible, but that's how it goes in bridge. 60% of the time, it doesn't matter which way you go. 35% of the time, the right line wins. 5% of the time, the bangers win, and you lose. Have to just keep trying to find the higher percentage lines, and don't worry too much about individual results. V
ArtK78
The title to this thread is good, but it could just as easily have been "Think before you play from dummy!"
pooltuna
The title to this thread is good, but it could just as easily have been "Think before you play from dummy!" Absolutely NOT! Play a card the instant you realize all of dummy's cards are equal, I don't think this is illegal or even unethical as your RHO ought to be thinking about the hand as a whole. This gives you some possibly not useful insight into RHO's problems with the hand. However, THINK and plan before you play a card from your hand. How about planning before you play from dummy anyway in case it would be advantageous to make your from-hand play in tempo! And who said anything about illegal or unethical anyway? Yeah, or what if you play from dummy, and then thinking about the hand some more and planning something realize you better review what the opponents funny early auction was. Too bad you lost that right when you called for a card from the dummy!
jdonn
Don't worry mbodell, we don't have to take advice regarding the dummy from someone who doesn't even know dummy is always north.
